Many people prefer to wear a watch. The purpose is functional (just telling the time) or because it is fashionable. A good watch looks great on someone’s wrist.
But watches are becoming less popular due to the advent of the smartphone. Who needs to buy a watch when your phone chimes, has a calendar, and has an alarm? It is a valid point and that explains the decrease in watch sales in recent years.
2. A travel companion on your wrist
James L. McQuivey, an analyst at Forrester Research, described a smart watch as:
“Someone who knows more about what you need than you.”
The Apple Watch, for example, can send different vibrations to your wrist to tell you whether to turn right or left when following directions. Instead of constantly staring at a smartphone, for example, you can follow an invisible guide that tells you where to go. Look up and enjoy the scenery instead of looking at a map.
3. Finding a phone, a key or a device is even easier
As you well know, losing a phone or keys is an extremely frustrating experience. Best Smartwatches it always seems to happen before some important occasion that we just can’t be late!
Fortunately, a smart watch can make this inconvenience a thing of the past.
Most of them have a “Find phone” function. You can connect your phone or any device with it and you can ring through your watch whenever you want.
Did you lose your phone? Just press a few buttons on your watch to locate it in seconds.
4. They work as a good physical activity tracker
Many smart watches have fitness tracking as their main feature. It will help you keep up with your fitness goals. So if you’re ever thinking of wearing a fitness tracker or pedometer, you can replace it with a good smart watch.
What exactly can a smart watch do? You can count steps, distance, calories, heart rate, pulse rate, sleep, and some even go the extra mile to calculate other important metrics you may need. We recently reviewed the LQM EX1 fitness tracker and I’m sure a good smart watch can offer you the same.
Garmin watches are especially good fitness-based devices, but most offer fitness-tracking features these days, as the technology is much cheaper to make than it was before.
5. Answer messages and receive calls instantly
If you have a smart watch on your wrist, you no longer need to take your phone out of your pocket. You can take calls or reply to messages on the go. This is especially useful if you are exercising or in a scenario where carrying a phone is too uncomfortable.
Some watches also have voice support. Like something out of Star Trek, you can talk to your wrist and communicate with someone thousands of miles away.
Just remember that all of this is done on a much smaller scale than a smartphone, so the interface knows it can be a bit fiddly. A smartwatch will never replace a phone for these tasks (not in the near future anyway) but it is certainly very capable when worn for small amounts of time when carrying a phone is just plain awkward.
6. See your social media notifications
Who doesn’t want to see Facebook, Twitter, and What Sapp, Snapshot or other social notifications on their wrist? Well I actually and this is always something I turn off, but for others, this is a “must have” feature.
Some watches will simply display your messages and activity on social media, but others will also allow you to interact with the application. I don’t recommend using this as your main method of interacting with people on social media as it is a bit of a hassle, but on those occasions when you’re running or something like that, it’s awesome!
Just be careful when finding a watch that does this correctly. Many manufacturers will claim that their watches are “wired” in this way, but they actually need to be powered by a Bluetooth signal from your cell phone. Truly standalone and standalone smart watches require a data plan and SIM card and tend to be more expensive. You can read about our favorites here.
7. You are even connected while doing activities.
When you’re running, cycling, swimming, or any other form of exercise, you may want to take a look at your messages, calls, or notifications. Sometimes it is not possible to carry a phone with you in those activities, and it is uncomfortable and annoying when you do it anyway. This is where a smart watch really comes in handy.
